As Dead to Me actress Christina Applegate took to the stage to present two awards, the beloved comedic actress was met with a standing ovation and rapturous applause, as she walked on stage with a cane.

Christina, 52, was invited to the stage to present Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Christine was helped across the stage by host, Anthony Anderson, who has been met with rave reviews for his hosting skills.

Christina, who publicly shared that she is battling multiple sclerosis in 2021, was left in tears over the moving welcome. Speaking into the microphone, she shared: "Thank you so much! Oh my God! You're totally shaming me [and my] disability by standing up," she said, prompting lots of laughter from the audience. "Body not by Ozempic," she added.

Christina then continued: "Some of you may know me as Kelly Bundy from Married with Children. We don't have to applaud every time I do something."

She concluded: "I'm going to cry more than I've been crying." Viewers took to X (formerly known as Twitter) in their droves to comment on the emotional moment.

One social networker said: "The standing ovation for Christina Applegate has me bawling already." While another continued: "Such a queen." A third added: "Love her. She deserves that ovation and more."

Viewers seemed delighted to have the Emmys back after it was postponed last year. While the awards show, which focuses on the best television series of the year, is normally held in September, the WGA strike led to it being pushed back until January 2024. The best TV shows of 2023 like Succession and The Last of Us have gone head-to-head in categories like Best Drama, Best Actor and Actress and Outstanding Writing.

Anthony Anderson, best known for his role in Black-ish, was selected to host the 75th annual Emmy Awards. He has plenty of hosting experience from his gigs on To Tell The Truth and We Are Family. He has expressed that hosting the awards ceremony has been a lifelong goal, even though he hasn't won any of the 11 Emmys that he was nominated for. He also shared ahead of the ceremony that his mother Doris Hancox would serve a special role by replacing the play-off music used to end speeches.
