Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly expressed reservations about their pivotal interview with Oprah Winfrey, acknowledging its lingering impact on their future endeavors.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines in 2021 after their candid interview with Oprah, a few months subsequent to their decision to step back from royal duties.
During an episode of the Royal Report podcast, Jack Royston, Newsweek’s chief royal correspondent, shed light on the lasting impression created by Meghan's disclosure about alleged racism towards their son Archie within the royal family.
Royston emphasized that this particular revelation remains a prevalent and pertinent topic in the public sphere, especially with recent mentions in Omid Scobie’s book, "Endgame," in its Dutch version released last November.
"The lasting impact of this revelation is significant," stated Royston during the podcast discussion, suggesting that attempts to downplay or counteract this disclosure may prove challenging for the Sussexes.
He elaborated, explaining that the Oprah interview holds an unparalleled position in the public consciousness, overshadowing future efforts by the couple. Royston highlighted its enduring prominence, indicating that it will overshadow subsequent ventures, including the Netflix documentary and Harry's memoir, "Spare."
The interview's timing and significance as the first comprehensive insight into Harry and Meghan's perspective, according to Royston, have solidified its place as a defining narrative, setting the stage for subsequent discussions and shaping public perception.
"The Oprah interview remains the cornerstone of the Harry and Meghan narrative, setting the tone for subsequent developments and garnering significant attention due to its initial impact and the drama it stirred," he concluded.
