King Charles’ rule faces ‘threats’ amid growing concerns over health

King Charles has been 'coping well' with his cancer treatment but he still has many more challenges ahead

King Charles may be doing well amid his health concerns, but his reign, which began over a year ago, is faced with uncertainty.

The monarch was diagnosed with cancer last month while he was undergoing treatment for his enlarged prostrate. Soon after the surgery, the Buckingham Palace had announced the news regarding his health.

While Charles is “coping well” with his cancer treatment, Royal biographer Sally Bedell told People Magazine that there is still growing concern about his health given his limited appearances.

“Even though he has revealed that he has a form of cancer, that has done nothing to quell the speculation about how seriously ill he may or may not be,” Bedell told the outlet. “That is not doing the monarchy any favours. He is the head of state, and there are constitutional implications.”

The King is reportedly going to miss out the annual Trooping The Colour event in June after he skipped the memorial service of his second cousin, King Constantine, the last king of Greece.

“The monarchy needs to be that anchor in times of trouble,” Bedell pointed out. “And any sense of instability, which is inevitable when you have two of the key players are out of action, is understandable.”

Kate Middleton is also currently recuperating from her abdominal surgery which she underwent in January. The royal did not make any public appearances since Christmas and was briefly spotted in a car ride with her mum on Monday.

There have been ongoing concerns whether King Charles would be able to continue with his reign given his health conditions. It remains to be seen if the monarch will bow out and let his heir, Prince William take the reigns.
