"Nightbitch," starring Amy Adams in the lead role, is gearing up for its theatrical debut on December 6, 2024, marking a strategic release during the awards season. Originally slated for a Hulu premiere, the Searchlight Pictures and Annapurna film will now hit the big screen.
Directed by Marielle Heller, known for her work in films like "The Diary of a Teenage Girl" and "Can You Ever Forgive Me?," the movie is an adaptation of Rachel Yoder's satirical novel. The story follows a new stay-at-home mom who undergoes a surreal transformation, believing herself to be turning into a canine amidst the challenges of motherhood.
"Nightbitch" delves into the mind-bending journey of a woman navigating the demands of raising a toddler while her husband is away on extended business trips. As her domestic routine becomes increasingly draining, she begins to suspect a metamorphosis into a protective canine.
Produced by Marielle Heller and Anne Carey, the film also features Sue Naegle, Christina Oh, and Stacy O’Neil among its production team, with Stacy O’Neil being Adams' partner at the Bond Group company. The project was originally developed by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.
Director Heller expressed her enthusiasm for Yoder's book, stating, "Rachel Yoder‘s book took my breath away... Rachel’s darkly hilarious tale of motherhood and rage made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic."
Heller, whose previous work includes the acclaimed "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," starring Tom Hanks, is poised to deliver another thought-provoking and engaging cinematic experience with "Nightbitch." With Amy Adams leading the charge, the film promises to captivate audiences with its blend of satire and psychological depth.
