He's best known for playing 'village buffoon' David Stockwell in Heartbeat
It's been over ten years since Heartbeat left our screens, and in the time since, many of its actors have gone on to star in a number of well known films and TV shows.
From soap appearances, to theatre work, to lifting the Glitterball trophy on Strictly Come Dancing, the cast of Heartbeat have certainly been keeping busy since the police drama solved its final case.
David Lonsdale is no different, starring in a huge feature film - that many people failed to notice at the time!
David, who played David Stockwell in Heartbeat, had a small role in the Downton Abbey feature film in 2019, where he played a police sergeant. Quite the step up!
The unnamed role meant that David got to act alongside the likes of Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, and Elizabeth McGovern.
When the film was released in 2019, David wrote on Twitter: "Incredibly chuffed to have made a tiny contribution to a rather splendid film."
Despite appearing in a number of other roles, David's turn as David Stockwell in Heartbeat was perhaps his most memorable character.
Appearing as a series regular for a number of years, his time on the drama was arguably his most notable credit.
Downton Abbey isn't the only time David Lonsdale has appeared on the big screen, however.
He had a small role in the 1997 hit comedy The Full Monty, appearing alongside Robert Carlyle and Mark Addy.
When his Heartbeat days were over, David also made appearances on Coronation Street, Casualty, and Emmerdale.
It seems that starring in Heartbeat made for a great springboard to future roles for a number of actors, David included!
