Exploring Taylor Swift's Cinematic Journey Amidst the Hollywood Strike

If you didn't catch Taylor Swift's remarkable Eras Tour during its groundbreaking 52-date stint across the United States, here's some great news. Next month, you'll have the chance to catch up when the Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour concert film premieres in every AMC Theatre across the United States, Mexico, and Canada on October 13.

With infectious enthusiasm, Swift shared the news of this 2-hour and 45-minute cinematic experience on her social media channels on Thursday morning, August 31. She posted an 80-second trailer along with the caption, "The Eras Tour has been the most profound and electrifying journey of my life so far, and I'm thrilled to announce that it's hitting the big screen soon. Starting October 13th, you can witness this concert film in theaters across North America!"

However, the immediate question that arose was, "How did Swift manage to film and promote this documentary amidst the ongoing Hollywood strike involving actors and writers?" This production-disrupting strike commenced when the Writers Guild of America went on strike on May 2, followed by SAG-AFTRA members joining in on July 13. This strike brought production to a halt for nearly all movies, TV shows, and streaming projects in the U.S.

Nevertheless, there's a glimmer of hope, as SAG-AFTRA reached an interim agreement that covers individual non-AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) productions, provided they adhere to the same standards being negotiated with the studios. A reliable source close to the Swift film confirmed to Billboard on Thursday that the Eras documentary had secured clearance under this agreement before commencing production. Billboard also verified that the Swift film is discreetly listed under an assumed name among the approved interim agreement projects.

The interim agreement's extensive terms encompass everything from scheduled breaks to compensation for fittings, meal allowances, wardrobe allowances for lead actors and supporting actors, daily allowances, rest intervals, and more.

The filming of the Eras Tour movie unfolded during the initial three nights of Swift's six-night residency at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, from August 3 to 9.

Interestingly, Selena Gomez recently faced criticism for removing a photo related to her Hulu series, Only Murders in the Building, after some followers accused her of violating SAG-AFTRA regulations regarding promotion during the strike. These union regulations prohibit members from promoting new or completed works that are released during the strike through interviews, social media posts, or red carpet events. Since the Swift film falls under the interim agreement, Billboard has confirmed that the singer's promotional post doesn't infringe upon any strike rules, and there are no restrictions on her promotion of the project.

In a striking example of the strike's impact on another musician with ties to Hollywood, Troye Sivan, in a recent interview with Billboard, expressed his excitement about his new single, "Rush," but was unable to discuss his involvement in the recently canceled HBO drama, The Idol, which had concluded its run weeks earlier. Sivan voiced his unwavering support for the strike and solidarity with those waiting for fair treatment, adding that he couldn't divulge details about his upcoming leading role in the coming-of-age drama, Three Months.

Swift's devoted fans, the Swifties, likely already know everything they need to about securing tickets for the movie. However, just in case you're not in the know: every AMC Theatre location in the U.S. will screen the Eras film at least four times a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Tickets are priced at $19.89 plus tax for adults and $13.13 plus tax for children and seniors (excluding AMC's premium large-format screens.) The film will be available in AMC theaters across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with tickets available for purchase now via these links.

In response to the tumultuous rollout of Eras Tour presale tickets by Ticketmaster, AMC has revamped its website and ticketing systems to accommodate a volume of ticket purchases that is more than five times larger than any they've previously experienced.
